My Personal Recommendations
I visit San Diego two months out of the year, and in 2019 I met Leo Hamel at a Low Carb Convention put on by lowcarbusa.org. He runs a very high-tech gym named Leo's Fitness Lab, which is more a lab than a gym. He uses ARXFit Computer-controlled machines that match your current strength, second by second, with the exact weight you need to build maximum metabolic health and strength. Every second of your exercise is plotted in real-time on the screen, and every workout is saved so you can compete against your last workout. Most people see strength gains in almost every session because, like my Smart Method, you work towards temporary muscle failure, which brings about an adaptive response in the body.
I spent one summer training his staff on the best use of these machines because they follow my Smart Method of training.how many hyperlinks is too many in an article.
The Lab also has a Cosmed Bodpod, a scienticif instrument that measures body composition (lean tissue versus body fat). It is the Gold Standard of body composition instruments and is superior to hydrostatic testing (dunking in water) because you remain dry the whole time. They also offer The PNOE (breath in Greek), which measures your exact resting metabolic rate. It is important to know your calorie expenditure per day if weight loss is essential to you. Several studies have shown that calorie restriction alone, if gone too far, leads to a 50/50 fat and muscle loss. One NEVER wants to lose muscle as it is vital to the metabolism. By measuring your resting metabolic rate, you can define how many calories one needs to cut per day without losing muscle.
If you live in San Diego County or are visiting, Leo's Fitness Lab is worth a stop.
